Woods

I’m really glad that we’re having awesome weather so early.
I know we’ll probably be paying for the mild winter later in the year, but right now is nice.
I’ve been going out to the woods as much as possible. Rocking my new pair of moccasins. It’s rough terrain in them, but it makes me feel closer to the Earth. I’ve been practicing knife throwing and just all around survival skills.
Before the end of the summer I want to successfully start a fire with using only string and sticks.
This is a part of my current quest, and it’s making me feel more in tune with the Earth. I’ve noticed my mood has improved overall since I’ve started meditating (which is going well still, by the way), and I’m so glad about it.
I’m done being a depressive person.
Gotta go right now, off to enjoy the last hour of daylight.

Zippo of Fate

Okay, so this is a little bit of a sidetrack from my usual stuff.
Basically, while I was working for a local company who takes care of developmentally disabled individuals, I found this awesome zippo lighter. Of course, I kept it— no one in their right mind would pass up a free Zippo when they had none. So after a while, it runs out of fluid, and I lose my job with the company. Some months later, ie yesterday, I’m walking through the woods and what do I find but a pile of burnt rubble and beside it lays a container of Zippo brand lighter fluid about 1/3 full.
What other deduction can be made, save that this lighter has been gifted to me by the Universe for some specific purpose.
I will carry it with me until its purpose is fulfilled.

Meditation Practice Day 14

Hey gang, haven’t been updating as much,  being that there’s not too many new developments for me to blog on. The meditation has gone the same for the last week, which I’m not surprised. I made excellent progress in the first few days, now I’m busy paying my dues. As promised, I will be putting up some excerpts from my dream journal soon. Maybe tonight, depending. Thank you all for your support!

andreaalexander asked: I went through something similar and am just now coming out of it... I wish my more recent posts were about it. If you've never heard of the "Dark night of the soul", you need to look it up. You're on the right track.

I’m actually very familiar with dark night of the soul :)
When coming into the Christian faith, it seemed like my every prayer was answered for a while. Then for the longest time it seemed like God didn’t hear me. I felt so alone, no prayers were answered, and I was incredibly depressed. That’s when I found out about what was going on, and realized that He may be closer than ever. I know He is with us when we are the lowest. It’s not a healthy man who goes to the Doctor, but he who is sick. Thanks for your support!

Meditation Practice Day 6

I experienced my first strong emotion during meditation.
It was immense frustration. I’m not sure where it came from, but it started to make me question what I was doing. Made me feel like sitting quietly and breathing wasn’t going to do anything. I wanted to stop, but I got a second wind and found myself rising to the challenge my frustration provided. I stuck it out and was glad I did.
I found that it helped to silence the frustration by changing the “object” I was focusing on. I was focusing on knowing the rise and fall of my breath. I changed from that to focusing on hand movements, which occupied more mental space which allowed me to drop the frustration.
just a helpful tip for anyone who encounters the same while meditating.

Meditation Practice Day 5

Incorporated some hand movements into my Vipassana meditation. It helped me to stay focused on what I was doing more. I actually had to push myself to finish the session. Seems like I get twice the practice when I use them. I think I will continue to use them, just more sparingly.
For anyone who doesn’t use movement in their meditation, or who doesn’t know what they’re for, they give you another thing to focus on. It keeps you more focused because you “see” (imagine) the movements you make as you make them. It makes it more real, in a way.
Keeps you more in the exact moment. I was having a little trouble with my mind wandering when just breathing, but when I use the movements, my mind is always in the present.

For anyone who doesn’t know what I’m trying to accomplish, please read This and feel free to follow me (I generally always follow back).

Also, I will be adding some pages from my dream journal soon. This is yet another method for me to look within and hopefully uncover more answers. Thanks

Meditation Practice Day 4

So far, since I’ve been learning to meditate I have observed a few situations which hinder my ability to concentrate effectively.

1. Some one else in the room (sleeping)
2. After smoking
3. Lying down in bed (Though I believe it’s still a good time for extra practice on a less serious basis)

I’m enjoying the learning process thus far.
